Consensus methodology: Delphi, Real-Time Delphi, NGT and Polisis® - Helaglobe

Expert consensus

When evidence is not enough

We turn clinical experience, incomplete evidence and multidisciplinary perspectives into shared decisions that are documented and ready to use.

A consensus method is not chosen from a table

Every project needs a design consistent with the need, the available evidence, the timeline and the people to involve.

Helaglobe works with several methodologies and builds the configuration together with its partners, without applying a predefined format.

Which situation do you recognise in your project?

Select the boxes that best describe your situation: together we will build the most consistent pathway.

Select the boxes

The method depends on available evidence, objectives, timelines and panel composition. Select at least one box to get a first indication.

Consensus methodologies: many approaches, one methodological direction

An essential overview of the methods we can combine, adapt and document according to the project.

Classical multi-round Delphi

Builds consensus through repeated interaction with a restricted panel and an extended panel, keeping individual answers anonymous.

In each subsequent round, experts receive aggregated feedback, reassess the statements and contribute to the progressive stabilisation of group judgement.

Modified multi-round Delphi

Starts from evidence and preliminary statements and submits them to several rounds of assessment with controlled feedback.

The single panel, usually multidisciplinary, can reconsider its judgement at each cycle. Protocol, consensus thresholds and design changes are defined in advance and documented transparently.

Real-Time Delphi

Replaces separate rounds with a continuous window and can also involve an extended panel.

During the online consultation, experts follow the aggregated group trend and can revise their judgement as feedback is updated over time.

Multi-round versus Real-Time Delphi

Nominal Group Technique

Alternates individual idea generation, round-robin sharing, clarification and private voting in one or a few sessions.

Facilitation reduces the weight of the most vocal participants and takes the group from ideas to an ordered set of priorities.

Polisis®

Helaglobe’s proprietary method combines evidence, anonymous asynchronous ideation, discussion and ranking.

It turns multidisciplinary perspectives into policy recommendations that are traceable, publishable and focused on implementation.

From question to publication

The value lies not in a single step but in the consistent oversight of the whole scientific and operational pathway.

01

We analyse the need, the project objective and the stakeholders and professionals who will need to be involved.

Numbers linked to evidence

We only show results that can be traced to documented publications and projects.

Frequently asked questions on expert consensus

What does a consensus project produce?

The output can be a consensus paper, clinical statements, an expert opinion, a policy brief or an operational framework. It is defined starting from the decision the project needs to support.

Can the result become a scientific publication?

Yes, when protocol, panel selection, statement development, analysis and reporting meet appropriate methodological and editorial standards.

How many experts are needed?

There is no universal number. Panel composition depends on the question, the range of expertise required and the representativeness needed.

Can patients, caregivers or other stakeholders be involved too?

Yes. Depending on the objective, clinicians, pharmacists, health economists, institutions, patient associations, caregivers and other relevant figures can be involved.

How do you choose the most suitable consensus method?

The choice depends on the question, the available evidence, the number and type of stakeholders, the level of interaction needed and the expected output. That is why Helaglobe builds the design together with its partners.

What is Polisis®?

Polisis® is Helaglobe’s proprietary method combining evidence analysis, multidisciplinary input, structured discussion and prioritisation to produce traceable, implementation-oriented policy recommendations.

Which consensus methodology best fits your project?

Tell us about your need, the evidence available and the output you want to achieve. The Helaglobe team will propose and build with you the most consistent methodological pathway.
